FORMATION
One circle, dancers side by side in groups of three, facing in         The two end dancers should be far enough apart to just be able to touch fingertips with outstretched arms. In this dance, they do not move but act as ’gateposts’ Only the middle dancer actually moves.

DANCE - WIND UP
The middle dancer dances a figure of eight around the two ends starting by dancing clockwise (passing inside to begin) round the right hand ‘post’ to original place. (4 bars) Then dancing anticlockwise (passing inside to begin) round the left hand ‘post’ to original place. (4 bars) . This sequence is repeated  twice (= three sequences altogether) with middle dancer finishing in original place. The end ’posts’ need to hold their ribbons rigidly, and the middle dancers need to be gentle with their ribbon to avoid a plaited effect.

DANCE - UNWIND
Middle dancers reverse direction and order of dance. Finish facing out and bow.

NOTES
As the dance is quite short, it is a good idea for the middle dancers to continue dancing the sequence in the unwinding direction (clockwise round the left hand ‘post’ and anticlockwise round the right hand ‘post’) for another three times. This will wind up the pattern in the other direction. Reverse this to unwind. A good dance if there are a lot of inexperienced dancers - only one third of them actually do the dance.
