FORMATION
One circle, dancers equally spaced round the circle, facing in. The dancers are numbered clockwise around the circle. Only the odd numbered dancers move. The even numbers do not move and act as ‘gateposts’ For the best effect, dancers should make as small a circle as is comfortable for dancing .

DANCE - WIND UP
All the odd numbered dancers face the ‘post’ on their right. Then they weave in and out  of the posts as they dance round the pole in anticlockwise direction . Start by passing right, (going inside or under) then left with next, (going outside or over), right with next and so on until the music ends.

 DANCE - UNWIND
Odd numbered dancers reverse direction of dance. Finish facing out and bow.

 NOTES
The above sequence can then be followed by evens weaving clockwise round the odds who act as posts This is an easier version of Single Plait and can be used to teach the movements of Single Plait before getting all dancers to move at the same time Another version is for the odds to wind up anticlockwise round the evens until they reach their original place. Then the odds stand still and the evens wind up clockwise until they reach their original place. This longer sequence can be repeated and gives a similar effect to Single Plait (q.v)  .
